"Every 36 seconds, a child is neglected or abused; every 41 seconds, a baby is born into poverty; every 59 seconds, a baby is born without health insurance; every minute, a baby is born to a teen mother; and every three hours, a child is killed by gunfire. Those facts are not acts of God but a result of our moral and economic choices as a society. We can and must change them."
-Marian Wright Edelman
These 5 goals set by Itard the wild boy he named Victor can be viewed as the first individualized education plan (IEP) for special education: "To give the boy the ability to respond to other people. Hi Susan,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the quotes. They were inspiring, especially the one by George Washington Carver. His quote reign true in my personal beliefs about our divine purpose here on Earth. We must all remember the last part...because throughout our lifespan we will at one point in time be young, old, striving, weak, and strong, The quote by Marian Wright Edelman is astonshing, yet true, therefore as champions in the field of early childhood we must be the difference makers.

I love the quotes that you picked. I am always intrigued by reading people's favorite quotes, you can really tell a lot about a person from what their favorite quotes are. I was inspired by reading the one you mentioned from Marian Edelman, quotes and stats like that remind me of why I do what I do. No matter how stressful and hard my job can get daily, I reminded that I can make a difference and I have a very small amount of time to make that difference. Thanks for sharing!
